A study by Hooper, N. et al. has analysed the five-year radiological results of the uncemented Oxford medial compartment knee arthroplasty.1
Summary of Study:
The authors followed the first 150 consecutive Oxford Cementless unicompartmental knee arthroplasties, and reported a 5-year survivorship of 98.7%.
The study also reported:
- Significant improvements observed in mean OKS and HAAS at the two year follow up were maintained at 5 years. This still stood when age and gender were taken into account.
- “There was no radiographic evidence of subsidence or femoral lucency in any of the knees at 5 years.”
- None of the knees demonstrated a complete tibial radiolucent line (RLL), and there were no pathological RLLs. 7.3% of knees did demonstrate partial RLLs, similar to results found in another Oxford Cementless PKR study2.
- It should be noted that there was a 13% loss of follow-up for radiographic review due to the patients having been deceased, being either unable to attend, or too unwell to attend.
